Few different launch spots around the lake. Not the place to learn, but good enough to get your fix (and minutes from downtown New Orleans).
Cypremort Pointe Beach
Centrally located on the coast, Cypremort Pointe State Park is just 45 minutes east of Lafayette, off of Hwy 90. Check the forecast before you go, this one works in limited wind directions.
Rutherford Beach
For those of you out on the west side of Louisiana. Little known beach tucked under Lake Charles.
